The Big ONE!

Today my sweet babies turned ONE at 2:32 and 2:34 p.m. Even though I had been expecting this day for some time now, it seems as if it snuck up on me. It sounds so strange to say they're a year old already. So much has changed in a year. I look at videos and pictures of them as newborns and realize how far they've come-- actually, how far we've come. The first couple of months were really challenging and seemed as if time stood still, but no matter how hard I wanted to slow down these last 10 months, they went by in a flash. I will always treasure this first year with them. I've learned so much about them and so much about myself. They've made me a better person and have made me realize how much love a heart can hold. There is no love like a love you share with your children.

My hope is to write a letter to each of my babies at every birthday. What a wonderful keepsake it would be to have letters upon letters of love written from their mommy. I hope Ella and Evan treasure our love as much as we do theirs.

My little Evan,

My little mama's boy turns 1 today. The day that you and your sister were born I knew I'd never be the same. You two have exceeded all the years of dreams and hopes that I had of becoming a mommy. You are perfect examples of dreams coming true.

By the end of the day, I think back to all the times you wanted me to hold you, waving your arms back and forth, and it makes me want to run up to your bed and hold you. I always feel so busy during the day and think that I need to get everything done. This is your gentle way of reminding me what's important-- my two babies. I feel so complete with you two in my arms; there isn't another feeling in the world I'd rather have than the deepest of love I feel for you two.

This past year has been the best of my life. We have such a special bond and I love waking up to your sweet face every morning. From 7 lbs. 8 oz. to 25 lbs., you have grown so much. Mommy and daddy have grown too; we are much better people because you are in our lives. You and your sister are the center of my world and I will love you for all the years of your life and nothing can replace this first year.

I was so scared to have a boy, but I can't imagine my life without you. No one ever told me how fun a busy little boy could be. Your smiles and giggles melt my heart, and all your snuggles too. I love your love to learn and your love for daddy, sissy, and me. Nothing makes me happier than caring for my babies. My whole life I knew this was the job for me.

I am so thankful to be your mommy. I am truly blessed beyond words. God knew exactly what He was doing when He gave you to me. He knew that you were exactly what I needed.

I love you, my sweet little boy. Grow up strong knowing that I will always be here for you. Let God direct your paths, and you'll really go far.

Love,
Your mommy
My Dearest Ella,

Today you turn 1. It's so hard to even say; how can that be right? One year ago today, you came out crying louder that I thought any baby could cry. We knew you'd be a strong one from that very moment. You are my first born and my heart melts every time I think of you and see your sweet face. You daddy says that you and I share the same twinkle in our eyes. I love that you look so much like me. I see myself in you already. I prayed for a daughter like you. You are a perfect example of God's answered prayers.

Look at you! Look at how you've grown my sweet, sweet little girl. Seeing pictures of you as a newborn makes me want to start crying. My heart just feels full as I remember all the emotions of hearing your voice and seeing you for the first time, feeding you, holding you, and dreaming about a future with you.

I love these photos of you because they capture your facial expressions, your laughter, your personality, and who God has created you to be.

I am so proud to be your mommy Ella. I am still in awe that God gave you to us. I will spend the rest of my life thanking Him.

This past year has been better than I could have ever dreamed. You are my dream come true. Always and forever. Happy, happy birthday beautiful girl. I love you.

Love always,
Your mommy

Kari, you are so BEAUTIFULLY articulate!!! You put into words exactly how I felt about my own babies!!! (and wish I had written letters to tell them:( )--Perhaps they will read this and know.
I have always said, there is no way to describe the intense love a mother has for her babies. It's unfathomable unless you've experienced it. But you've indeed put it eloquently.
You and Greg are Wonderful parents, and Ella & Evan are extremely blessed to have your love! Thank you for bring such Sweet and Precious Grandbabies into out lives. We Love them dearly too:) :) HAPPY 1st Birthday
