I realize it's been almost a week since I've updated everyone. I guess there's not much to report on. Good thing is that the babies are still safe inside of me. And I suppose I was wrong about my "feeling" of delivering around the 35-36 week mark, as tomorrow will be 37 weeks (who knows... still have the rest of the day and night).
The babies seem to be doing well, but I, on the other hand, have been feeling really "crappy" (more than one meaning intended here!). I seriously haven't felt well since Saturday. There has been lots of cramping and the above mentioned discomfort. My doctor told me on Monday that it was my body's way of getting ready. In my head though I'm thinking, "Okay already! How long does my body need to get ready? Let's get this taken care of!" As you may have noticed, I'm still feeling done. The last 3 nights have been miserable. I don't think there's a body part that isn't in pain. And laying down is impossible with the insanely painful heartburn. The Tums just aren't cuttin' it anymore- they seriously do NOTHING for me! I would say that each night I collectively get about an hour and a half of sleep. Last night I just sat up and cried because I hurt so bad and was so tired- I just want to sleep! Everyone just LOVES to tease me and say that I should get use to the no sleeping thing, but seriously, I find it hard to believe that I will get LESS sleep once the babies are born. I could be wrong though. I'm just hoping that the type of sleep will then change, regardless of how much I am given.
We're still waiting on the exact time of the c-section. I've been waiting a week for the dr's office to call and I guess I missed their call yesterday afternoon. I've been staying at my mom and dad's house the last couple of days because Greg and my dad are paranoid about me being home alone anymore. Anyway, I attempted to call the office back this morning, only to get an answering machine. I left a message almost 3 hours ago and haven't heard anything back. I'm just getting irritated now. I guess I just want to know the pre-op appointment time so that Greg can let work know if he needs to come in late or leave early on Friday if it lands on that day. I'm just getting really anxious and want to know all the plans. Ooh... I just got a call from them with our appointment time. I guess the appointment is scheduled for tomorrow morning right before my NST. I'm actually glad that the appointment is earlier rather than later. I have so many questions about it... how long will it be before I can see and hold the babies? How soon after the surgery will I be able to breastfeed? And lots more. I was also informed (after I asked!) that the c-section is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. I'll need to be there by 7:00 a.m. though. WOW! It's coming up soon... =)
I'm sure I'll be able to post at least one more time before the babies are born, but we'll see. I'll do my best to make sure information and pictures are available for all to see. I can't guarantee that there will be a lot to share right away, but I'll try to get the basics down! Please keep praying for our family... for our health and safety and our dr. (we want him well rested and alert!). =)

Hang in there Kari. You are doing great! You have been through so much already. You will soon see it was all worth it. :) You and Greg will be GREAT parents!
Hi Kari,
I hope you don't mind me commenting, my name is Shawna and I am a good friend of Tawny's. I found your blog on hers and as a new Mom, I really have enjoyed reading about your journey.
I wanted to comment on the "when can I breastfeed after the babies are born?" I know things might be different with twins, but I wanted to share my own experience. Be as proactive as you can about the breastfeeding, get those babies latched on as soon as possible. Don't wait for them to give them to you, request them, even in the recovery room, if you are alert and able and they are as well. If all goes well, you don't have to wait until you are settled in your room to try. The sooner the better!
I waited for instruction and help and by the time I got to try, Madison was in the deep baby sleep they go into soon after birth. It was difficult to start after that and I had a rough time of it convincing the "pro nursing staff" that I was determined to nurse. (They were pushing formula way too early in my opinion).
I guess I just wanted to say that sometimes you have to make things happen because even with the best of intentions, the hospitals don't help sometimes. Trust your instincts.
I wish you all the best of luck with the birth of these sweet babies and becoming a mom has been more than I have ever imagined it could be.
I will leave you with a quote I carried in a locket while trying to get pregnant and during my pregnancy:
"Mom didn't say it would be easy, she said it would be worth it."
It totally is!
I'm so excited for your babies to get here!!
